Stylish, fun, and confident…
These are words often used to describe people who wear dreadlocks.
However, the formation of clumps in dreadlocks can ruin their appearance and affect the confidence of the wearer.
When individual dreadlocks intertwine over themselves, clumps of hair may form. This creates a strand that’s larger than the other locs. It is a good idea to eliminate clumps as soon as they appear in your locs.
How do you get rid of them?
Wrap Your Head at Night
Clumps often form at night, when the person wearing dreadlocks rolls around on his or her head. Prevent this from happening by wrapping your head with a scarf or cap at night. Your locs will remain in place and avoid the friction caused by rubbing against each other and the pillow.
Using a head covering will secure your locs in place and prevent them from clumping or twisting over. Wrapping your head at night will also help to retain the scalp’s moisture and prevent your locs from breaking.
Palmroll Your Dreads
While clumps do not pose any inherent risks to your hair, they can affect the appearance of your dreads. Use the palm rolling technique to remove the clumps in your dreadlocks.
Roll the locks back and forth using your palms, with a small amount of wax. Start from the roots and work your way up to the tips of the dreads. This is an effective technique to eliminate and prevent clumps, lumps, and other imperfections from forming in your dreads.
