Dreadlocks are one of the most versatile styles for your hair and yet, even wearing your natural hair in locs can get boring after a while. An easy way to keep them fun and exciting is to change their color.
Although dying or bleaching hair is easier before it is dreaded, the process of adding color leaves the hair a bit dryer and makes it easier to knot them into dreads.
Take Care of Your Dreads
This post will cover the simple and easy process of dying your locs at home with a hair color kit. The process requires a little extra attention and is very similar to coloring loose hair:
- Separate your locs into four sections. Apply the barrier cream included with your kit to the skin and around the hairline. Next, put on your gloves and mix the color.
- Use a tint brush to distribute the color evenly. Use the scrunching method so that the color settles deep into your locs.
- Apply a cap to your hair once the color is applied. Wait around 45 minute, which is longer than most hair care boxes would recommend. It takes longer for the color to penetrate the locs.
- Wait for the color to soak into your hair. Use the cleansing wipes to remove the smudged color from the skin. Also around your hairline and ears.
- Rinse your hair twice, ensuring that the water runs clear. Condition your dreads with a thick oil conditioner to hydrate and nourish the hair. Apply a styling serum to increase the sheen to the hair.
Finish up by retwisting your locs to style.
