I mentioned on an earlier post that one of the best techniques to get dreadlocks is to twist them.
As your dreads grow longer, you may need to retwist them to add new hair growth to tighten up the locks.
Follow these simple steps to retwist your dreads:
1. Start At The Base Of The Neck
To cover an entire head of dreads, you need to start at the nape of the neck. Use pins to move the upper dreads out of the way and start with about an inch of the bottom rows of dreads across the base of your neck.
2. Twist The Hair At The Base Of Locks
Take a single dreadlock and apply a little dread wax to the new hair growth at the base. Using firm pressure, pull the hair away from the scalp and twist into the lock of already twisted hair.
3. Tighten The Dreads
Palm roll each lock several times using firm pressure and working your way up from the base to the tip. Locks that have been palm-rolled can be pinned out of the way as you progressively move up from the base of your neck.
4. Retwist The Next Layer
Remove the pins on the next layer and pin the layer above it so that the higher section of hair is out of the way. Use the above steps to retwist each layer, covering an inch of scalp at a time.
5. Add Some Finishing Touches
You don’t need to pin the hair when you reach the front of your head. Simply retwist the final section of dreads and seal the dread wax using a hair dryer or allow the dreads to air dry for 30 minutes.
